Back in the 1980's the live action series ALF about a alien stranded on earth and living with a normal America family, was so popular that it got not only one but two animated spin offs. ALF the Animated Series deals with ALF's life on Melmac before the events in the ALF TV show. The other cartoon show is ALF Tales which retells various classic fairy tales in typical ALF style.
ALF the Animated Series is a prequel (to the live action sit-com ALF), depicting ALF's life back on his home planet of Melmac. Since the name "ALF" was an acronym short for Alien Life Form and only given to Gordon Shumway later on Earth, "ALF" is never used in the animated series except for its title. ALF would always be referred to as "Gordon", his true name, or "Gordo" by his friends Rick and Skip. In nearly every episode a live action ALF would appear at the introduction and conclusion of the episode; reading fan mail and saying that this show is a response to a huge demand of people wanting to know what his life was like on Melmac.

Gordon Shunway, nicknamed ALF on earth in the live action serie ALF(acronym for Alien Life Form), is an alien from the planet Melmac.
Each episode depicts ALF and his family in some kind of wacky situation. His family members are his father Bob, his mother Flo, his younger brother Curtis, his little sister Augie, his dog Neep, and his bird Harry. Gordon has two friends named Skip and Rick, and a girl he adores named Rhonda.

Colonel Cantfail is an Orbit Guard officer on Melmac. His first appearance is in the ALF: The Animated Series episode "Phantom Pilot"

He tried to invade Melmac, and it was up to ALF to save him when the Melmacian AirForce couldn’t stop him. Alf tricked Larson Petty into flying his ship into a giant donut hole, where Petty’s spaceship got stuck, and was dunked into a giant cup of coffee.
